Simon can be related to the Bible in many ways (final)

After the death of Simon at the end of chapter 9, his crippled body lied on the beach. Then glowing creatures from the sea come ashore. They lifted Simon’s body off the ground, and Simon’s last breath came out of his body. Then the sea creatures dragged his body towards the sea and the tide sucked his body into the ocean where none of the boys would go. While many refer to Simon’s last breath as a likening to Jesus Christ’s resurrection, this is not correct because his body did not come back to life again. There are numerous recorded resurrections in the New Testament books, all of which have the person’s body come back to life again. How this part of the book can be connected to the bible is in John 13:33. He says, “You will seek me and as I said to the Jews where I am going you cannot come so now I say to you.” He is referring to His death on the cross where He went to pay for the sin of mankind, a place where none can follow him. This is similar to what happened to Simon after he died.

Simon can be related to the Bible in many ways (part 3)

In Chapter nine and ten of Lord of the flies, Simon finds out that there isn’t a beast on the island, and that it is just their imaginations. When Simon comes out of the jungle in the night to tell the others, Jack and his tribe mistakes Simon for the beast, and they kill Simon. Piggy and Ralph are in denial after watching Jack’s tribe murder Simon on the beach the night before. When Piggy and Ralph start arguing about Simon’s death it goes into a heating debate about the night’s events. How this scene can be related to the bible is in the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. When Jesus (just like Simon) was an innocent person and was put to death by a great group of Jews (just like Jack’s tribe). The reason why both Simon and Jesus were put to death was that the Jews and they were confused about whom they were. For the Jews didn’t think that Jesus was the son of God, and Simon being mistaken for the beast. Then after the death of the Jesus and Simon some of the people who witness their deaths still didn’t believe who they were just like the Jews, Jacks tribe, Ralph and Piggy.

Simon can be related to the Bible in many ways (part 2)

In chapter 8, Gift for the Darkness, Simon is confronted by the lord of the flies as the pig head from Jack's sacrifice to the beast. Throughout the whole encounter the lord of the flies’ blasphemies Simon on how he is a silly little boy, and tries three times to persuade Simon not to tell the others that the beast is only a man in a parachute. Simon refuses after three times and runs away from the lord of the flies. This scene can be related to chapter 4 in the book Matthew of the bible when Jesus was confronted by Satan in the wilderness, the holy city, and on a high mountain. Just like the lord of the flies, Satan tried to tempt Jesus three times to sin, but Jesus backfires Satan’s temptations with scripture. Jesus leaves Satan after refusing to do what he says, Just like Simon and the lord of the flies.

Ralph and Jack from Lord of the Flies: and how they relate to the Bible

A good biblical parallel is in chapter titles; A View to a Death, and Cry of the Hunters when Ralph looses his tribe members to Jack’s tribe because of jack’s persuasion of how much of a better chief he is. Jack also says that he is better than Ralph because he knows how to hunt, which allows them to have feats and fun unlike under Ralph’s tribe. As soon as most of the boys join Jack’s tribe they start doing evil deeds, like worshiping the beast by giving it a gift (pigs head), or stealing Piggy’s glasses. They even murdering two boys, and trying to hunt down Ralph too. This is related to the bible by Jack likening to Satan, and Ralph likening God. People follow Satan because he persuades and tricks people into doing his evil ways. Also it’s a lot easier to sin and follow Satan’s ways than to go along with God’s righteous ways. Satan’s way which leads you to hell, in which most people take, is like a wide and straight road (referring to Jack’s tribe growing bigger with his persuasions). While God’s way to heaven is a narrow, winding path, and only a few people find that way (referring to Ralph’s small tribe).

Simon can be related to the Bible in many ways (part 1)

The character Simon in the lord of the flies has many strong connections to the bible.
For starters, on page 57 Simon walks into the forest after listening to Ralph and Jack's heated debate about the importance of the group. Following him are the younger children referred to as the "littluns" throughout the book. Once in the forest, "Simon found for them the fruit they could not reach, pulled off the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them back down the endless, outstretched hands." right after feeding the "littluns" Simon leaves them to venture into the jungle.
How this is related to the bible is to be found in the books Matthew, Mark, and John where the “littluns” are represented as the multitudes and Simon as Jesus. In Mark chapter 6 32-46 Jesus and his disciples departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves. But the multitudes saw them departing, and many knew who Jesus was and ran there on foot from all the cities. The multitudes arrived before them and came together to Jesus. And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things. When the day was now far spent, His disciples came to Him and said, "This is a deserted place, and already the hour is late." "Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves bread for they have nothing to eat" But Jesus answered and said to them, "You give them something to eat." The disciples answered Him back saying that they only had five loaves of bread and two fish. After hearing this Jesus then told the disciples to make the great multitude sit on the grass. Then Jesus took the bread and fish and looked up into heaven, blessed and broke the bread. Then his disciples passed the food down to the multitude, and all ate of the food and were full. Right after the feeding of the great multitude Jesus and His disciples left.

Even the Title is a Biblical Parallel

A very obvious biblical parallel in Lord of the Flies is the title itself. The title lord of the flies came be found in the Babylonian phase “Beelzebub” which is translated to say lord of the flies. In the bible this can be found in chapter 3 of Mark verse 22, “He has Beelzebub… the ruler of the demons…” This is just one of the names that Satan is given in the book of the bible. Another name that is in the lord of the flies that can be related to Satan is the Beast. Throughout chapter 13 of the Revelation, it talks about Satan being a “great” beast.
